Mitchell falls
OMG we are going to Mitchell Falls.
Up early we leave the van behind for this trip the Rd is said to be a challenge. There had been a roll over the day before and the car and the girl driving were badly injured. We heard she was in a coma and heading for Darwin Hospital. We saw plenty of cars limping in the day before.
Tyres are down we have back packs ready for an incredible day.
THE ROAD IS BADDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This is by far the most corrugated Rd I have ever been on. Fast, slow, sideways, backways its makes not difference the Rd is Baddddd! However the scenery is fantastic. It is different to the rest of the area as it has hills and valleys and you rise up for fantastic vistas. It is mainly Livastonia Palms and Gums. We are overtaken by people who we call destination travellers. Their cars are copping an absolute hammering. We stop and reset a couple of times as we get out of sync with the Road. We arrive at the National Park. 76km takes 2 hours driving. A reminder that you can't be in a hurry up here.

Roll Over
Now there is two ways to see the Mitchell Falls one is to walk and the other is to fly. So up up and away we go. We take a chopper flight to the top of the falls. Wow Wow Wow!!!!! I"m getting teary again writing this as it is just so beautiful. Nash and I take the first chopper and Maya and Adam in the next.
The falls are spectacular from the air. They are sacred to aboriginal people up here so no swimming in them as it would anger the rainbow serpent that lives in the pool. Our chopper pilot told us that some backpackers climbed down and swam in there in 2019 and the next day the falls stopped flowing. Bit goosebumby hey. We spent some time at the top of the falls swimming and went to the look out. Amazing.
Now because we flew in we had all day to take our time and walk back. We headed off down the track first stop was a small rock art site that is not marked so keep you eyes open.
Big Mertons (I am the little spec to the right)
These were the track makers
Little Mertons Falls.
This was a great swim stop on the way back down with the added bonus of some ancient rock art. It is un marked so take the track under the water falls to the left. Lots of Bradshaws ( they have been renamed to their traditional name but I don't know what it is sorry )
The video is taken from behind the falls.

Art under the rock face
We continued our walk and decided to take a track to another art/burial site but we couldn't find it so we were a little late back( what's new).
We mentally prepared for the drive back.
Yes it was as challenging as on the way in. The last few kms were in the dark. The end of the tray had shaken loose and Adam had to strap it down but over all the car did us proud. Shake and bake pancakes for dinner was all we could manage
