Kalamina Gorge, Kermit's Pools and Hamersley Gorge
We hiked Kalamina Gorge today. The walks state that they are difficult grade 4 walks however they are not that intense some steep descents and a bit of walking through water. This is a beautiful gorge. The colours of the rock are a work of art. There is a swim waiting for us at the end but the water is freezing but you cant go all that way and not enjoy the reward so in we go.
Check out the patterns and colours on the stone
The next Gorge on the list was Kermits Pools.
This walk is through some very narrow passes and you do get wet there is no way around it however it is incredible to see how the water carved its way through the layers of rock and of course there is a rock pool for a swim at the end.
We changed camp sites and headed up to the other end of the park to the Eco lodge.
They had drinks and burgers there yum.
There is a fantastic experience to do at Karrajini with a guy called Phil.
He runs a an astrology night and guides you through the constellations and planets with his epic telescopes. This is a must do. We saw Saturn and her rings Jupiter and its moons. He explained space time. We were able to see thousands of stars in the milky way. I can not recommend this enough he was funny and knowledgeable. He explained how Aboriginal people have an extensive knowledge of astrology and that makes them oldest living continuing culture of astrologists in the world. (Eat your heart out Greece)
Photo Phil Wit ( note it is run out of Dales camp ground not the Eco Lodge)
Now I'm not sure if I mentioned that we saw a cyclist on the Gibb yes a cyclist! We gave him a wave of encouragement, he waved back unfortunately we saw in the revision mirror that the wave cost him to lose his iPad in the dirt so we felt bad. Over 1000kms later at the visitor centre in the park guess who turned up the cyclist. So some quick introductions and now we know him as
"Cycling Claude"
He has his own blog have a look he has cycled the world
Next Gorge is Hammersley it is a bit of a drive (100 kms round trip) and is a dirt rd most of the way. There is no fuel out there so make sure you have enough.
Elmo is on this trip and waves to the road trains have a listen to the reaction
We make time to take some photos of the wild flowers in the Pilbra they are stunning and many. I'm sorry my knowledge is limited on WA flowers, so will call them the purple ones and yellow ones etc
It is an easy walk down to water and we spent the day swimming and eating and marvelling at the rock structure it is wavy and buckled. The gorge has a very long swim at one end so we did that but it was cold water.
( two of our largest birds one can fly the other can run)
