The Gibb River Rd
This morning we leave for the Gibb river Rd. For those who dont know the Gibb is a stretch of Rd that starts between Kununurra and Wnydham and finishes at Derby. It has sealed and unsealed sections ( mostly unsealed and very rough) and is notorious for breaking cars caravans and people. The reward for travelling it is some of the most remote and fantastic Gorges and rivers in Australia and probably the world. So off we go. El Questro is our first stop. It is very busy as the road is sealed to their gate and its not to far from Kununrra. It is first in best dressed for unpowered sites. The sites were $60 per night and you have to buy a week pass for $50.00. We stopped at one of the stations gorges on the way before we set up. It is hot and the walk in is about 2 km round trip. The track is a lot of rock hopping. I would suggest some kind of hiking sandal as it is a bit tricky in thongs. The gorge is called Emma Gorge and it is off the scale beautiful. It is like stepping into fairy land. The rock walls are lined with ferns stretching down to get a spray of water. It is different to most Gorges as it is called a droplet water fall. This translates to individual spheres of water dropping over the 30 meter high edge and landing in the pool below making ripples. You can see each droplet!!!! The water is so fresh that you can drink it. We spent most of the afternoon there just in awe of mother nature. There is second pool on the way up that is turquoise in colour and nice swim also.
