Gregory National Park and Keep River 17th to 19th July

Left today for WA.

We had to go through Katherine again!!!! This time we were lucky enough to see the Ghan pulled in the station so of course the 2 boys (Adam and Nash) were excited. The guard told us that because of Covid the train could not go through to SA so it was kind of stuck. The Ghan for people who don’t know is one of the longest passenger trains in the world and it travels from SA to Darwin.

We continued on to  a camp in Gregory National park which was busy but nice. The next day we headed off for Keep River NP which is only a stone’s throw from the WA border. Along the way we stopped and did the Nawilbinbin escarpment walk at Joe’s creek carpark. What a great find we hiked up quite a steep track and then walked amongst the palms in the cool of the overhanging rocks. It was so relaxing up there.

We stopped out of timber creek to visit the amazing Gregory Tree. It is a huge Boab Tree with engraved dates back to 1856. Some magnificent trees on the walk

Of course we got to Keep River late as we were enjoying ourselves to much. We had a lovely fire and cooked up all our potatoes and veggies as you cant take any fresh food over the border into WA.

Our first stop over the border was going to be Lake Argyle and we had heard it was busssssyyyyyy!!!!!And it was first come first served basis. So we went to bed early with our fingers and toes crossed that the border would be open as Covid was spreading through NSW and Vic knowing that WA has a very strict border. With no coverage we had no clue of what was happening, a nervous night.
