Wuggubun Aboriginal Community campsite 24th to 26th

Decided to stay at a little place about 50 km out of Kununurra . What a little gem $25 a night, a small water hole for swimming, excellent facilities, fires and pets allowed. There are gorge walks if you want. Thanks to the community there for sharing your place, lovely.

Purnululu and the Bungle Bungles 21st to 24th July

Purnalulu and Bungle Bungles in the Kimberly

Stocked up at Kununurra and then down to the Bungle Bungles. Once at the entrance to the park it is 4WD so, tyre pressure down and off we go. The road is not to bad there are lots of river crossings some dry so not. The range in front of us is Red against the blue sky. As usual we are heading in late but we are rewarded with the most extraordinary sunset. The range went from orange to red to a deep red that glowed like coals in a fire. The kids were sick of me saying “look at that”. We found out later that the sunset colours were a result of clouds high in the stratosphere bouncing light down onto the range. No photos of this we decided to just enjoy it. Set up camp and to our surprise it got cold, like really cold we got out the jumpers and blankets! Our first day we headed for Echidna gorge. It is a beautiful walk into long thin gorge that is spectacular some places are only as wide as a person. In the afternoon we hiked into another gorge called Mini Palms, it was a very hot walk 37 with no shade for the first part but once you round into the gorge it is an oasis. A magnificent view at the end from the viewing platform. It was quite and still and we had the whole place to ourselves with bird song for company. It was so relaxing we had a sleep up there for about an hour. ZZZZZZ.

Back to camp for dinner and a sunset. ( not cold tonight) Good but we didn't experience another sunset like the first we saw for rest of our stay.

Next morning down to the south end of the Park for some of the more famous sights. The Cathedral and the Domes. An easy walk in the gorge and a spectacular space at the end. The acoustics are out of this world in there in fact the Sydney Symphony played there once and said it was better than the Opera house! The Bungle Bungles or the domes are amazing and not like anything else in the world. We lashed out and took a Helicopter Flight over Domes and it is really the best way to see it. The chopper had no doors so you felt like you were amongst it. Maya and Adam in the red chopper and Nash and I in the Blue one. We all had big smiles at the end of the ride. Back to camp for a lazy afternoon and pack up in the morning.  We enjoyed the relaxed style of the campground here. No big vans and minimal facilities. I cant really put into words how special Purnululu is so you will just have to go for yourself.

W.A OMG we made it!! 19th July

WA We made it!!!!!

Up early and off to the border. With our G2G passes we arrive at the border. OMG we are through!!! I feel very emotional. This trip is 20 years in the making for Adam and I. 20 long years of work and building a house and few other bumps along the way and to make it to the end game of WA with Covid nipping at our heels is met with excitement and relief. I can stop holding my breath now.

The rumours were true about Lake Argyle. It was bussssyyyyy there were at least 30 vans parked on the street waiting from the night before and we were given a ticket number 60!!! So a long wait for a spot. They have a great pool there so we took it in turns of going for a swim and Adam and Nash went for a bike ride to the lookout. We arrived at 6.45am and got a site and 1.45pm. After a re shuffle (Brooke not happy with site) we set up with a beautiful view over the area. We did a boat trip on the lake with a swim. Swam in the famous infinitely pool and sat on the grass and listened to a local muso play some original songs one is quite a rude song but very funny about a bloke named Derrick you can look it up yourselves. The park is the only place to stay at Lake Argyle. You can camp on the side of the road but its not legal and could get moved on. The price is around $120 for 2 nights but it is a one stop shop that caters for most people. It was a bit hectic for my liking but views were out of sight, we had resident red tail cockatoo and lake was massive (14 Sydney harbours)with lots of wildlife.

One tip I would offer is try and hire a BBQ barge for about $200.00 for half a day. It is cheaper and longer than the tours.
